The New Mexico Department of Public Safety offers various law enforcement programs. It maintains forensic laboratories that provide scientific support services to several criminal justice agencies throughout New Mexico. The department operates latent print and chemistry units. The New Mexico Department of Public Safety maintains Santa Fe Laboratory and Las Cruces Laboratory. It also operates an information technology division, as well as provides sex offender and missing person registration services. The department offers fingerprint information and uniform crime reports. In addition, the New Mexico Department of Public Safety maintains motor transportation police and special investigation divisions. The department operates the DPS Training Center.
As a part of the New Mexico Taxation & Revenue Department, the Revenue Processing Division, also known as RPD, processes more than 50 tax and fee programs and conducts tax collections. It collects over $5 billion in revenue for the state and local governments annually. The division s collection is distributed by the state government to taxpayers, counties, municipalities and related state agencies. It interacts directly with taxpayers and offers information related to state statutes, tax questions, refund claims and unclaimed property being held by the state. In addition, the Revenue Processing Division manages a postage budget that is used for mailing assessment notices and billing statements, as well as distribute forms for tax and fee programs.
