- 5-star WR Caleb Cunningham flips Alabama football to Ole Miss. What we know
Alabama football has lost a crown jewel of its 2025 recruiting class.
Caleb Cunningham , the five-star wide receiver out of Ackerman, Mississippi, ended his commitment to Alabama football Friday and flipped to Ole Miss .
After Alabama's 40-35 loss to Vanderbilt on Oct. 5, Cunningham told the Tuscaloosa News the Crimson Tide "shocked the crap out of me," but that "it ain't changed nothing with my commitment."
"It feels great. Amazing. Like the best decision ever," Cunningham said. "You can't go wrong. That's a great program, man. Plus the receivers they have (who are) in the league, they've done developed, they really the team that's going to get you to the league for sure.
"They got everything you need to be successful."
At that time, Cunningham said multiple programs were trying to still flip his commitment, mentioning Ole Miss , Mississippi State, Auburn , LSU , Florida State and Texas as the teams he had been hearing from most.
A month later, Cunningham was at Ole Miss' 28-10 upset win against Georgia, and was projected to flip his commitment from the Crimson Tide to the Rebels the next day.
Cunningham is the No. 16 player in the 2025 recruiting class per 247Sports' composite rankings. He is the second-ranked wide receiver in the country behind five-star Oregon commit Dakorien Moore.
Per 247Sports, Cunningham, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound receiver, had 48 catches for 1,138 yards and 14 touchdowns in 2023.
"He demands a ton of attention," Choctaw County football coach Dillon Mitchell said. "You got to design plays with him getting (the ball) and then also him forcing the defense to react to him going across the formation and wherever he's lined up."
With Cunningham in Ole Miss' 2025 class, Alabama has one wide receiver left committed in its class: New Jersey four-star Lotzeir Brooks.
Alabama has four five-star players committed in 2025 even with Cunningham's departure: Texas quarterback Keelon Russell, Texas offensive tackle Ty Haywood, California cornerback Dijon Lee and Pennsylvania offensive guard Michael Carroll.
