Alabama football wide receiver Ryan Williams agrees with Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith . They are the best two wide receivers in college football, Williams said.
"I definitely say we're the top two in the country," Williams said. "And, you know, no disrespect to the other guys in the country, but that's just the way I feel."
In an interview with CBS Sports , Smith , who had his share of acrobatic catches against Michigan State , remembered watching what Williams was doing in his SEC debut for the Crimson Tide against Georgia.
"When we got on the bus, they were still playing, so when I got on the bus he made that big catch, I was like 'woah, yeah, he's different'," Smith said. "I just feel like we're the best receivers in the country right now as freshmen."
Williams said he met Smith for the first time last year and that while the pair worked out together, he could tell "we were on the same wavelength as far as what we wanted to do at the collegiate level."
Through six games, Williams leads Alabama in receptions (23), receiving yards (576) and touchdown catches (6). While Smith is second on Ohio State with 32 receptions, he leads the Buckeyes in receiving yards (553) and touchdowns (7).
But Williams said he doesn't try and compare his production to Smith's from week to week.
"A lot of people do try and make it a competition," Williams said. "But I just take it as two guys grinding for their team and doing the best possible to help their teams win. So I have nothing but respect for him because he's a great player."
Williams said he and Smith "talk here and there" and that there is mutual respect between the pair of freshman receivers.
"It's a solid relationship," Williams said.
