The Cincinnati Bengals quietly made a major change last week, benching starting linebacker Logan Wilson.
While Wilson had been obviously struggling in Al Golden's defense and a youth movement happened at other positions, the veteran who had the green communication dot on his helmet didn't seem to be in jeopardy of losing snaps.
Fast forward to now, though, Wilson has opened up publicly about his benching and his comments might just be a little concerning.
As seen in footage from CLNS Media's Mike Petraglia, Wilson owned the benching as a life obstacle in some really positive ways…all before dropping a "Zac felt otherwise" comment at the end:

"The reason I was given was they wanted a spark on defense," Wilson said, according to Charlie Goldsmith of Fox 19. "I don't know exactly what (spark) means. When I asked if there was anything I could do to improve and be better, I wasn't really given a great reason. That's the hardest part."
There's a lot to unpack here. Zac Taylor teams have had communication issues in the past with players, from Carlos Dunlap to otherwise. Wilson name-drops Taylor, but not Golden, his unit coordinator, which is either very significant or a slip-up.
Strangest of all, the Bengals had a ton of missed tackles during the loss to Green Bay, anyway. If the idea is a spark and youth movement with rookies Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter, one has to wonder why the Bengals haven't benched plenty of other players who deserved to get demoted due to their performances.
The whole thing is, frankly, just weird. In hindsight, perhaps Wilson's comments will be the latest red-circle-worthy moment on a timeline that results in the end of an era after the season.
