Bill Belichick, North Carolina no longer to be featured in Hulu documentary series: Report

With an embarrassing 48-14 loss on Labor Day to TCU in its highly anticipated opener under first-year head coach Bill Belichick , North Carolina football and its six-time Super Bowl champion coach showed it wasn’t ready for primetime.

It turns out the Tar Heels aren’t ready for streaming, either.

North Carolina’s previously planned season-long documentary with Hulu has been scrapped, according to a report from Inside Carolina on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

The news comes as the Tar Heels are mired in a struggle-filled debut season under Belichick, who had no previous college coaching experience before accepting the job last December.

North Carolina is 2-3, with its only two victories coming against FCS Richmond and a Charlotte program that has gone 12-29 the past four seasons. Its three losses, all of which came against Power Four conference opponents, have been decided by a combined score of 120-33.

The documentary series, which would have offered a behind-the-scenes look at the program, was originally announced in August, with the typically dour Belichick saying at the time that he was “excited” about the opportunity.

“It’s gonna feature the players working hard, which you guys do,” Belichick said . “It’s about the players improving and getting better through their hard work, which you do. And a program starting from where it started from several months ago to wherever it’s gonna do during the course of the season, which, of course, we determine on the field. It’ll show our commitment to winning, it’ll show our commitment to the team, and that’s our priority.”

The Hulu project was North Carolina’s second attempt at turning Belichick’s first season into streaming content.

The Tar Heels were originally going to be featured on an offseason version of the acclaimed “Hard Knocks” series, but shortly before NFL Films and HBO were set to announce the agreement, Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, demanded content approval and partial ownership of the show, according to a report in May from The New York Times .

Shortly after the request, NFL Films, which had a longstanding working relationship with Belichick from his days as an NFL coach, nixed the venture.
