'I was blinded by those lights': Texas A&M TE discusses his memorable TD vs. Notre Dame

Texas A&M's 41-40 win over Notre Dame was epic by most standards, feeling more like an overtime thriller than a four-quarter battle that ended with one of the more improbable touchdown receptions from the Aggies ' transfer tight end, who is more known for his blocking skillset than his receiving ability.

After transferring from Nebraska this offseason, tight end Nate Boerkircher wasn't the addition that sparked a ton of excitement, mainly due to his lesser-known career as one of the Cornhuskers ' best blockers, who could occasionally make some noise in the seam, mainly due to his reliable hands.

However, no one could have predicted that, on 4th & Goal, with the game on the line, quarterback Marcel Reed would trust Boerkircher to make what has become the catch of the year so far. This was his only catch of the game, and the only time Reed targeted him, as he was mainly utilized in pass protection and was doing a fine job in that regard.

After the game, Boerkircher spoke to the media and revealed that, right before Marcel Reed's pass hit his hands, the Nebraska native was actually blinded by the lights in Notre Dame Stadium, but held on for dear life to come down with one of the most lavish receptions in Texas A&M football history. Here's his play-by-play:

“When the ball was in the air, I couldn’t even see it because of the lights. I was blinded by those lights. I saw it right before it got to my hands. Luckily, it was a great ball. It just appeared.”

Credit to Marcel Reed for throwing a perfect pass that had just enough velocity and touch for Boerkircher to create space and position himself against the defender for the memorable catch. While this moment will be etched in Aggie lore forever, Boerkircher will continue to impact Texas A&M's offense as a blocker and will likely come up with a handful of impressive receptions as the 2025 season continues.

Still, what a moment for the senior tight end.
