In addition to promoting a fullback to the active roster and signing a cornerback to the practice squad, the Denver Broncos also worked out six players on Wednesday, according to the NFL's transaction wire.
The Broncos hosted two wide receivers -- Elijah Cooks and Mike Woods -- and four defensive backs -- Shemar Bartholomew , M.J. Devonshire, D.J. Miller and A.J. Woods -- at their facility. A.J. Woods won the tryout and was signed to the team's practice squad .
Cooks (6-4, 215 pounds) entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of San Jose State with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2023. He spent the first two years of his career in Jacksonville, hauling in three receptions for 38 yards in nine appearances as a rookie. Cooks dressed for two games with the Jags last season. Following the 2024 season, Cooks joined the Philadelphia Eagles . After failing to make their 53-man roster this summer, Cooks initially joined Philly's practice squad, but he was waived two weeks later.
Mike Woods (6-1, 204 pounds) was picked by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft out of Oklahoma. He spent three years in Cleveland, hauling in 12 receptions for 110 yards in 15 appearances. The Browns waived Woods with an injury designation in July. He had three catches for 43 yards against Denver last season.
Bartholomew (6-1, 200 pounds) signed with the New York Jets as an UDFA out of Georgia Southern in 2024. After being cut by the Jets, Bartholomew was picked up by the Carolina Panthers . He appeared in five games last season, totaling three tackles and two pass breakups. The Panthers initially signed Bartholomew to their practice squad after roster cuts in August, but he was cut one day later.
Devonshire (5-11, 186 pounds) was picked by the Las Vegas Raiders in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL draft out of Pittsburgh . After spending his rookie season on the Raiders' practice squad, Devonshire was waived this spring. He went on to have summer stints with the Panthers and Baltimore Ravens , but did not make either squad.
Miller (5-10, 185 pounds) entered the league as a UDFA with the Kansas City Chiefs out of Kent State. After a stint in KC, Miller joined the UFL's Michigan Panthers, recording nine tackles and three pass breakups in two games this spring.
A.J. Woods (5-9, 186 pounds) signed with the Commanders as an UDFA out of Pitt in 2024. He later landed on the practice squad of the Eagles and received a ring after Philly won Super Bowl LIX last season. After being cut by the Eagles in August, Woods has now joined Denver's practice squad .
