While most people will spend their Friday night trick-or-treating, the North Carolina Tar Heels will spend it playing football.
Tonight at 7:30 p.m. in upstate New York, UNC (2-5, 0-3 ACC) will battle a Syracuse Orange team also looking to snap its 4-game losing streak. North Carolina showcased plenty of promise in a near-upset against Virginia, while Syracuse's last win came September 20 at Clemson.
The Tar Heels nearly won their last time away from Kenan Stadium, when they lost a 21-18 heartbreaker against the California Golden Bears. Similar to last weekend against UVA (7-1, 4-0 ACC), UNC's defense limited Cal (5-3, 2-2 ACC) to under 300 yards, but fumbled late and got the football back with just five seconds.
North Carolina found an offensive rhythm last weekend, nearly cracking 400 yards and continuously moving the football against a ranked Cavaliers squad. The Tar Heels' problem, though: they failed to finish drives. This included an opening-drive fumble on the 1-yard-line, plus a missed field goal before halftime – after Tony Elliott iced Rece Verhoff.
UNC went for two in overtime, falling inches short of a massive upset vs. UVA. Now, North Carolina turns its attention towards a Syracuse team in a similar spot: desperately searching for a victory.
If you're up in the Empire State, have a blast and cheer the Tar Heels to victory. Maybe UNC shocks us all and wins a football game.
