CLEMSON — Clemson athletics announced it has agreed to an annual home-and-home football series with Notre Dame starting in 2027 that will run for 12 years.
The series will run through 2038.
The agreement comes after both teams made the College Football Playoff last season, and Clemson settled its lawsuit with the Atlantic Coast Conference in March.
"Even in just the last decade, matchups between Clemson and Notre Dame have produced incredibly memorable moments and games," Clemson athletic director Graham Neff said in a school release. "We have immense excitement for the creation of this 12-year series between these two premier programs, as we know these will be must-see matchups for fans at Memorial Stadium and Notre Dame Stadium as well as television audiences nationwide."
Clemson and Notre Dame have played each other eight times with the Tigers leading the all-time series 5-3. Both have combined for 10 CFP appearances, including two national championships for Clemson and a championship berth for Notre Dame last season.
Clemson was already scheduled to face Notre Dame in 2027 (at home), 2028 (on the road), 2031 (home), 2034 (on the road) and 2037 (home). Yahoo Sports reported this new series will require change to the ACC's future rotational scheduling involving Notre Dame, a team that plays five ACC schools each season under an affiliation agreement.
Clemson has an annual non-ACC home-and-home series scheduled with in-state rival South Carolina . It also has future home-and-home series scheduled against SEC teams including: LSU (2025, 2026), Georgia (2029, 2030, 2032, 2033), and Oklahoma (2035, 2036).
ESPN reported the new agreement will offer "some scheduling flexibility and insurance for both schools" as the SEC considers moving to a nine-game conference schedule. It added "a nine-game SEC slate could put some of those future matchups in jeopardy ... but even if all currently scheduled games remain on the docket, these matchups figure to help with playoff résumés."
Clemson facing Notre Dame will give it another CFP-caliber team on its résumé but help it generate dollars for the school. A key point in its settlement framework with the ACC was an enhanced revenue distribution model that rewards performance and media value by viewership.
The new revenue distribution model is called a "viewership pool," which is directly focused on football and men's basketball viewership. It will be funded by 60% of the league's TV revenue.

Clemson projects it will generate $120 million in new revenue during the next six years based on this model and the ACC's success initiatives. It earned $4 million for making the CFP last season thanks to one of the ACC's success initiatives. It could have made $20 million if it reached the national championship game.
