Courtland Sutton and the Denver Broncos seem to be trending toward a contract extension .
The Broncos are not expected to dive into negotiations until after the NFL draft (April 24-26), but the team has already started initial conversations with Sutton. Those talks have Sutton feeling optimistic about his long-term status in Denver.
"My team has had a really good conversation with the guys up there in the front office, and I think it's working in the right direction," Sutton said during a recent interview with the Denver Post 's Parker Gabriel . "Ultimately, you just want to know you're working in the right direction. I think they see and have seen what I've brought to the team."
The 29-year-old receiver then added: "I'm open and optimistic about the fact that I'll be able to be here for the rest of my career."
Since being picked by the Broncos in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft out of SMU, Sutton has totaled 379 receptions for 5,340 yards and 32 touchdowns in 98 games. His career earnings will top $69 million this fall before his contract expires in 2026.
With one year left on his deal, Sutton seems to be closing in on an extension. Other players in line for new contracts include pass rusher Nik Bonitto and defensive linemen Zach Allen and John Franklin-Myers . Expect talks to heat up in the coming months.
