CLEMSON – Clemson football wide receiver Bryant Wesco Jr. was taken to the hospital Oct. 18 after an injury on a punt return in the 35-24 loss to SMU at Memorial Stadium.
Westco was flipped upside down and appeared to land on the back of his head or neck during the third quarter.
"They took him to the hospital to check him out," Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said. "It was a pretty serious deal. Keep him in your prayers."
Wesco did not have a catch against SMU but came into the game as the team's leading receiver with 537 yards and six touchdowns on 31 catches.
The sophomore from Midlothian, Texas, was a freshman All-American last season after catching 41 passes for 708 yards and five touchdowns. He led the team with an average of 17.3 yards per catch.
Clemson had another scary situation when offensive lineman Collin Sadler from Greenville High School had to be carted off the field with a leg injury in the fourth quarter. Teammates gathered around him before he was carted off the field.
"X-rays were negative, so that was a positive," Swinney said. "It wasn't broken."
