Deion Sanders addresses son Shilo's NFL release: 'Praying' for another chance

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders addressed his son Shilo’s recent release from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and said he’s “praying” he gets another NFL opportunity, which could happen as soon as Wednesday, Aug. 27.

Shilo Sanders , a former Colorado safety, was waived by the Buccaneers after punching a Buffalo Bills player Saturday and getting ejected from his final preseason game. Shilo had signed with the team as an undrafted free agent and now hopes he can get another opportunity.

“We're praying that he gets another opportunity to go with a team, but if he doesn't, the plans have already been put forward to what he's going to do next,” Deion Sanders said at a news conference in Boulder on Aug. 26. “So, Shilo is a man of many talents. I don't know if you guys know. He's a man of many talents, and he's gonna be straight. All the Sanders are gonna be straight, with or without football. You better believe that. You better believe that. I take care of mine, and I always have. And y’all know what I mean.”

Deion Sanders didn’t say what his middle son’s plans were, but Shilo has dabbled in acting and possibly could join the Colorado football program in some capacity. His older brother Deion Jr. chronicles his father’s team as a videographer. His younger brother Shedeur played quarterback at Colorado and is a rookie backup quarterback with the Cleveland Browns .

After graduating from Jackson State, Shilo Sanders, 25, was Colorado’s leading tackler in 2023 and third-leading tackler in 2024 even though he missed three games with a broken forearm.

He continues to face legal issues related to an $11.89 million civil default judgment against him stemming from an incident at his school in Dallas in 2015, when he was 15 years old. His attorneys are trying to get him discharged of that debt in bankruptcy court . But the creditor who is owed that money is fighting to get paid what he’s owed .

Deion Sanders and Colorado open the season Friday at home against Georgia Tech . It will be his first season at Colorado without his two youngest sons on the team.
