- Did Missouri football climb into national top-25 polls after beating Kansas? Where MU landed
The Tigers inched closer, but remained an unranked team in the latest coaches poll.
The AP voters, however, disagreed — ranking the Tigers as the No. 25 team in the country.
In the US LBM Coaches Poll, Missouri football is now the first team ranked outside of the top 25, up two spots from where it was ranked after Week 1. Mizzou beat Kansas 42-31 on Saturday in Columbia in the first Border War in nearly 14 years, taking the Tigers to 2-0 after a 55-point, season-opening win over Central Arkansas.
The Tigers received 142 voting points, up from 88 voting points following the Week 1 slate of games. If the rankings extended that far, Mizzou would be the No. 26 team in the country, per the coaches.
Missouri has finished back-to-back seasons with double-digit win totals and ranked among the top-25 in every major national poll and the College Football Playoff rankings. The Tigers, after Saturday's win over the Jayhawks, are 23-5 since the beginning of the 2023 season.
Nine SEC teams were in the coaches' top 25 in the updated rankings.
Georgia is the highest-ranked SEC team at No. 3, with LSU close behind at No. 4.
Three Big Ten teams — Ohio State (No. 1); Penn State (No. 2); Oregon (No. 5) — made up the remainder of the top five.
Elsewhere in the SEC, Texas was No. 7, South Carolina was No. 10, Ole Miss was No. 13, Tennessee was No. 15, Oklahoma was No. 16, Texas A&M was No. 17 and Alabama was No. 18.
Six teams with a loss this season — Texas, Notre Dame, Clemson, Alabama, Michigan and Arizona State — were ranked.
Including Missouri, five SEC teams were receiving votes but were not ranked among the top 25, with Florida, Auburn, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt also receiving votes.
Kansas was still receiving four voting points after losing to Mizzou in Week 2.
Mizzou coach Eli Drinkwitz is one of the 67 participating head coaches in the poll.
Mizzou is a top-25 team in the latest AP rankings.
The Tigers moved up from the seventh team ranked outside of the poll after Week 1 to become the No. 25-ranked team after defeating Kansas. Missouri received 109 voting points from the national media to climb inside the top 25 for the first time this season.
The major difference in the coaches poll and AP poll was the placements of Arizona State, which lost to Mississippi State on Saturday.
