The Atlanta Falcons have purged roughly 20 percent of their roster ahead of the NFL's 53-man deadline . There have been a few surprise cuts thus far, including third-string quarterback Easton Stick . While the move wasn't a total shock, since the Falcons have arguably the league's best backup quarterback in Kirk Cousins , most assumed Stick was safe.
Stick led the NFL in passing yards (520) through the 2025 NFL preseason. The 29-year-old was originally selected by the Los Angeles Chargers in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL draft. Since entering the league six years ago, Stick has appeared in six career regular season games (four starts).
The Falcons have reiterated that they are comfortable with Cousins serving as the NFL's highest-paid backup. However, most assumed the team would keep a third quarterback in case Cousins is eventually traded.
Don't be surprised if the New Orleans Saints end up claiming Stick off waivers. According to a report from NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Saints showed interest in the veteran quarterback over the offseason.
Stick has experience with Saints head coach Kellen Moore, plus New Orleans has a major question mark at QB.
