Florida State Player Trampled By Virginia Fans Storming Field
Virginia defeated No. 8 Florida State 46-38 on Friday night in a double overtime thriller. Once the final play came to an end, fans at Scott Stadium created one of the most chaotic scenes in college football history.
Florida State quarterback Tommy Castellanos tried to keep the game alive by throwing up a prayer to Squirrel White in the back of the end zone. However, his pass on fourth-and-12 was intercepted by Ja'son Prevard.
As soon as that pass was intercepted by Prevard, countless fans stormed the field. What made this scene so difficult to watch was the fact that White was still down on the turf. The fans could've legitimately trampled on him.
Did White make it out OK?
Those watching the Florida State-Virginia game at home were understandably worried about White's safety. You couldn't see the senior wide receiver once the fans stormed the field.
Thankfully, White avoided a major injury on Friday night. His head coach, Mike Norvell, said every player on the Seminoles made it back to the locker room.
"We got everybody in the locker room," Norvell told reporters.
Virginia coach disappointed by Friday's scene.
Following the program's upset win, Virginia coach Tony Elliott said he was unable to shake hands with Norvell and the rest of Florida State's staff.
"I hope that nobody got injured," Elliott said, via ESPN . "You don't want to see that. I hate that I didn't get a chance to go shake Coach Norvell's hand, because I've got a tremendous amount of respect for him and what he's done with that program."
There's no question the ACC will fine Virginia for Friday night's scene. The new rules state that a first-time offense warrants a $50,000 fine.
