Is a former 5-star linebacker Jaylen Sneed starting to emerge as a starter for Notre Dame?

One of the biggest questions this fall for Notre Dame football is who will replace the departure of the heart and soul of the Irish defense, linebacker Jack Kiser.

Drayk Bowen returns with plenty of hype , so there is some stability to the position, and through four fall practices, it looks like a former 5-star is starting to emerge as the other starter. In a post shared by On3’s Jack Soble on Wednesday afternoon, Jaylen Sneed has been taking the majority of reps with the first-team early in camp.

Coming out of high school in South Carolina, Sneed was ranked as the No. 34 overall prospect in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports Composite . He played sparingly during his first two seasons on campus, but finally got an opportunity for extended playing time last fall, as he made 51 tackles with 2.5 sacks, forced two fumbles while recovering one.

There are multiple other options that Notre Dame has at the position, with Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, Jaiden Ausberry, and true-freshman Madden Faraimo also fighting for playing time. Regardless of who takes the starting role, most likely all of these players will see plenty of time on the field for the Irish this fall.
