Former Texas A&M QB Conner Weigman is healthy and ready to prove his worth with Houston

Texas A&M's 8-5 finish to the 2024 season featured several storylines that had a direct effect on the program's disappointing 1-4 finish, led by running back Le'Veon Moss's season-ending injury and, of course, the quarterback carousel that featured Conner Weigman and Marcel Reed rotating throughout the year.

Due to his shoulder injury sustained in the season-opening loss to Notre Dame, Weigman's accuracy and overall confidence diminished after missing three consecutive games. Marcel Reed impressed the coaching staff while leading the Aggies to a three-game winning streak, and Weigman eventually fully returned vs. Missouri in a critical matchup at Kyle Field.

However, despite finishing 18-22 for 276 yards, throwing dart after dart, Weigman's shoulder only slightly improved, as his performance on the road during A&M's win over Mississippi State included two interceptions, leading to his permanent benching during the first half against LSU in the game that defined Weigman's career in College Station.

Finishing a miserable 6-16 for 64 yards against the Tigers, Texas A&M trailed 17-7 at the half before Macel Reed's memorable three-touchdown rushing performance. Sadly, this marked the end of Weigman's time in College Station, leading to his decision to enter the transfer portal.

After choosing Houston over Syracuse, the Cypress (TX) native returns close to home, while current Houston HC Willie Fritz coached Weigman's father, Chad Weigman, at Sam Houston in 1991. In a recent interview with CBS Sports' Chris Hummer , Weigman said he is ready to rebound and stay healthy while his confidence is back.

"I'm just getting back to the way I know I can play," Weigman stated. "That top quarterback in the class. I'm going to prove it this year."

Still, Hummer's interview proved that Weigman was dealing with much more pain than many of us thought. After personally covering the former five-star prospect's entire career with the program, my respect for him only grew after learning of his discomfort.

According to the piece, Weigman's AC joint injury never truly healed, as he received several Toradol shots throughout the season to get him back on the field. Still, his throwing mechanics never returned to form. Weigman was also drawn to Houston QB coach Shawn Bell, who recruited Weigman early in his career when Bell was with Baylor.

To be ligher on his feet and get back to his 2023 form before his season-ending foot injury, Weigman has also dropped ten pounds this offseason, which is a testament to his work ethic. Conner Weigman never reached his full potential with Texas A&M, but I can safely say that every Aggie fan will be rooting for his success moving forward.
