Former USC quarterback Malachi Nelson wins UTEP starting job

It has certainly been a wild journey for former USC quarterback Malachi Nelson . A five-star recruit in the Class of 2023, Nelson redshirted his first year on campus as the third-stringer behind  Caleb Williams  and Miller Moss . Following the season, however, Nelson decided to leave the program and transfer to  Boise State . Once again, however, Nelson lost the job at Boise State this season, instead backing up Maddie Madsen, who led the Broncos to the College Football Playoff.

This past offseason, Nelson transferred again, this time landing at UTEP . After a battle throughout camp, ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported on Thursday that the Miners have named Nelson as their starting quarterback.

Nelson has always had a ton of raw talent. Now with UTEP this fall, he will finally have the opportunity to prove that he can put it all together and be a starter at the college level.

In week three, Nelson and the Miners will face off against the No. 1 Texas Longhorns . Texas will be led by Arch Manning , a fellow five-star in Nelson’s recruiting class. After years of fans debating about the two signal callers on message boards and social media, they will finally have the opportunity to match up against one another on the field.
