The Denver Broncos rewarded left tackle Garett Bolles -- their longest-tenured player -- with a four-year contract extension last December.
Bolles, 33, is now signed through the 2028 season. He'll be turning 37 when the contract expires, so it's possible that this $82 million deal will be the final contract of Bolles' career. But he doesn't necessarily see it that way.
"Well, hopefully I can do one more," Bolles said in June. "That's my goal. We can talk about that later. I'm just grateful to be here. This organization has given me everything. This state has given me everything. The fanbase, the love I have for all my teammates. Being the old guy, it feels weird. I remember a couple years ago when I was talking to Von [Miller] and we discussed about me being here a long time.
"Now it just feels so weird being that guy, but I'm just super grateful. I have an amazing coaching staff that believe in me. That's all it takes. Once you believe in me, I'll run through a wall for you. I'm glad to be here. I don't think too much about the future or anything like that. I just focus on the now and what that's going to bring to me, and just get ready to protect Bo [Nix] as much as I can."
Bolles did an excellent job protecting Nix last season as the then-rookie quarterback was only sacked 24 times -- 23 other quarterbacks took more sacks last fall, including 18 QBs who took at least 30 sacks.
Bolles went on a two-year LDS Church mission right out of high school, so he went to college later than most prospects, and he later entered the NFL as a 25-year-old rookie in 2017. So while he's 33 now, Bolles is only entering his 10th season as a pro (many 33-year-old players have been in the league for 12 years). He hopes to play until he's 38 or 39 ( which has been done ).
"I have a young body that I can just continue to go," Bolles said.
