CLEVELAND — With the home opener festivities behind them, the Guardians look to keep it going against the Chicago White Sox Wednesday night at Progressive Field.
In Tuesday's home opening game , Nolan Jones walked it off — quite literally — with a walk in the bottom of the ninth inning .
Logan Allen , who won the job for the fifth spot in the starting rotation this spring, is set to take the mound Wednesday night for the Guardians opposite Sean Burke for the White Sox .

Guardians beat the White Sox in wild finish in ninth inning; Mike Tauchman injured on final play
That's something you'll almost never see in a baseball game.
With the Guardians leading 3-1, the White Sox loaded the bases with one outs. After closer Emmanuel Clase struck out Austin Slater for the second out, Miguel Vargas singled a ball to left field that had a chance to tie it, as one run easily scored and Mike Tauchman rounded third.
But as Tauchman hit the base, or perhaps one step afterward, he appeared to injure himself. Instead of a bang-bang play at the plate, Tauchman basically limped down the line, and Austin Hedges easily tagged him out to end the game, with the Guardians winning it 3-2.
Although the Guardians did pull off the win, Clase looked quite hittable yet again, and perhaps would have blown the save had Tauchman not hurt himself while running.
Paul Sewald , Hunter Gaddis finish the sixth and seventh innings
Logan Allen's day was done after 4⅔ innings. He allowed one unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Paul Sewald tossed 1⅓ innings, striking out three, and Hunter Gaddis finished the seventh inning with the Guardians still holding onto a 3-1 lead.
Steven Kwan hit by pitch, stays in game
Guardians left fielder Steven Kwan was hit by a pitch on the lower part of his right leg. He was checked out by a medical trainer and manager Stephen Vogt but remained in the game.
With two on and two out, Carlos Santana later popped out to end the inning. The Guardians still lead 3-1 heading to the fifth inning.
Carlos Santana belts home run against White Sox
A day after turning 39, Carlos Santana launched a solo home run to right-center field to extend the Guardians' lead to 3-1. That's his second home run of the season.
And considering how cold it is, and that the wind is blowing in from right field, Santana really got a hold of it. The exit velocity was 108.3 mph.
Logan Allen escapes threat in third inning; Guardians lead White Sox
Logan Allen has had to labor a bit the last two innings, but he has escaped with the lead intact both times.
Through three innings, he's given up two hits and two walks, and he's up to 58 pitches, but he has maintained the Guardians' 2-1 lead.
Jose Ramirez scores on a wild pitch to give Guardians lead over White Sox
Jose Ramirez's defense has been a bit off, but his baserunning remains elite. Ramirez scored on a wild pitch from third base with a picture-perfect slide, and the Guardians have quickly re-taken the lead, 2-1. The ball only rolled a few feet away from White Sox catcher Korey Lee , but it was enough room for Ramirez to steal a run.
Guardians, White Sox score: Jhonkensy Noel ties it
Back-to-back walks to lead off the first inning opened the door for Jhonkensy Noel, who singled to tie it 1-1.
White Sox jump on Logan Allen, Guardians in the first inning
A Jose Ramirez error has led to the first run of the game.
A ground ball could have eliminated the threat instead turned into a throwing error on Ramirez. With two runners on, Lenyn Sosa singled back up the middle to score a run and give the White Sox an early 1-0 lead.
The Guardians haven't been as sharp on defense as they normally are, and it has cost them again today.
That was the Ramirez's league-leading fifth error of the season.
Below is some pregame information.
Lane Thomas injury update: Veteran outfielder avoids serious wrist injury; Angel Martinez recalled
The Guardians might have avoided a lengthy absence with Lane Thomas.
Thomas was hit by a pitch on his right wrist in Tuesday's game. He stayed in for a few pitches but then exited the game. He said Wednesday that he didn't want the injury to impact a slide, and in a tied game, potentially the entire outcome.
X-Rays came back negative. Manager Stephen Vogt said Thomas could possibly be available off the bench in some fashion Wednesday night, but that he's considered day-to-day.
Angel Martinez was recalled from Triple-A Columbus in favor of outfielder Johnathan Rodriguez.
Vogt noted the team wants Rodriguez to receive consistent at-bats in Triple-A rather than sitting on the bench in Cleveland. Martinez also gives Cleveland a bit more positional flexibility with Thomas on the mend.
