'Heartbroken' Steelers Lineman Reveals Out-for-Season Injury Diagnosis originally appeared on Athlon Sports .
The Pittsburgh Steelers saw some major roster turnover this season on both sides of the ball, but they will enter 2025 without a returning face. Veteran defensive lineman Dean Lowry announced on social media that he has suffered a torn ACL.
Lowry, 31, was approaching his 10th season in the NFL and second in Pittsburgh.
The defensive tackle wrote on social media that he is "heartbroken" about the injury and his likely full-season recovery ahead.
"During a training camp practice last week I sustained an ACL injury that will likely end my season," Lowry wrote on Instagram. "Hard to comprehend the thoughts and emotions I have felt since then.
"Heartbroken I won't get to fully experience the highs and lows of an NFL season with a group I love going to work with. The risks associated with this game and the unique aspect of a football team are what make this sport like no other. I'm completely resolved to turn this negative into a positive with gratitude each step of the way."
His post has seen an outpouring of support from fans and teammates. Fellow Steelers Keeanu Benton , Ben Skowronek and Daniel Ekuale each commented their well wishes.
Last season, Lowry appeared in 12 games, making one start, and totaled five tackles and one sack. He is a former fourth-round draft pick of the Green Bay Packers in 2016 and played in Green Bay for seven seasons.
After a one-year stint with the Minnesota Vikings in 2023, he joined the Steelers where he now reunites with former Packers teammate Aaron Rodgers in the Pittsburgh locker room.
