Hugh Freeze confirms former team captain Damari Alston no longer with Auburn Tigers

The Auburn Tigers are in the midst of an incredibly tough stretch of games, facing ranked opponents in four consecutive weeks, and as they enter the final matchup in that stretch, it appears that they will be without one of the former team leaders.

According to head coach Hugh Freeze, running back Damari Alston, a former team captain, is no longer with the Tigers program going forward. Freeze confirmed this news on Monday, saying that they "wish him the best" going forward.

Alston had played in four games for Auburn earlier this year, rushing 32 times for 128 yards and one touchdown. This was Alston's fourth year with the program, and he amassed 809 yards and six touchdowns during his time with the Tigers.

However, the situation became untenable for Auburn down the stretch with Alston, and Freeze had to make the decision to remove him from the roster.

"He failed to meet the expectations and standards of our program," Freeze said on Monday. "He won't be playing here anymore."

Alston was voted a team captain by fellow players before the season, but he missed a couple of games due to a shoulder injury. Without Alston on the roster, Auburn will rely on Jeremiah Cobb, who has been the primary back so far this year, rushing for 453 yards and four touchdowns.

The Tigers are currently 3-3 after losing their last three games to the Oklahoma Sooners , Texas A&M Aggies , and Georgia Bulldogs . Their game in Week 8 comes against the No. 11 Missouri Tigers , and will be another tough test for Freeze and his team.
