Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren has signed his one-year restricted free agent tender contract, the team announced on Tuesday.
The Steelers had secured Warren's rights for the 2025 season by offering him the tender by the early-March deadline. Warren had the option to sign the tender and play under the one-year, $5.436 contract that has no guaranteed money, or negotiate a longer-term extension with the team.
Warren signing the tender doesn't rule out the idea of him making a long-term deal with the team, it is probably less likely.
Until signing the tender, Warren was also free to negotiate with other teams, though the Steelers would have had the right of first refusal to match any contract Warren agreed to with another club, and because the Steelers used a second-round tender, any team signing Warren away would have owed them a second-round draft pick. With Warren signing his tender, that part of the process is now off the table.

The Steelers could have offered Warren a first-round tender, but that would have raised the price of his contract to $7.5 million. The Steelers also could have only secured right of first refusal rights, and that contract would have cost $3.3 million.
Warren has yet to serve as a No. 1 running back in the first three years of his NFL career, but he has flashed that he could be that while rushing for 1,674 yards (4.8 yards per carry) and six touchdowns during the span . He also has 127 catches for 894 yards.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that the team is confident in Warren's ability to shoulder the load of the Steelers rushing game that will be without Najee Harris this season.
"I certainly feel comfortable with his ability to do so," Tomlin said . "He got hampered by injuries some in 2024. He appears to be ready to answer to that. I know he's really excited about his opportunity. I don't think myself or anyone within the organization question his talents in regards to the ability to manage potentially that role."
