Manager Daniel Farke has told the 31-year-old striker that he is not in his plans at the Elland Road club this season.
The Whites have since signed former Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin as his direct replacement.
The recruitment of the 28-year-old is a high-stakes gamble given that his injury record is very similar to Bamford's.
The Leeds hero turned outcast has missed 78 games since 2018-19 due to injuries, having been unavailable for selection for 500 days.
Calvert-Lewin has missed a total of 83 games . He has been sidelined for 529 days across the last four campaigns.
Nevertheless, Leeds opted to sign him after telling Bamford to leave for the same reason.
Newcastle United considered signing Calvert-Lewin, but they decided he was too injury-prone.
It will be intriguing to see whether he will manage to stay fit after making 26 Premier League appearances last term.
Bamford is out of contract next June and is expected to leave before the end of the transfer window.
However, suitors have not been forthcoming in recent weeks, and Leeds could look to terminate his contract if he remains at the club beyond September 1.
