BATON ROUGE — As the women's NCAA Tournament bracket reveal draws near, where LSU women's basketball might land, at least which region, appears clear.
It seems to be a foredrawn conclusion that both South Carolina, which according to bracketologists are a lock to the No. 1 overall seed after winning the SEC Tournament last week, and Texas, who lost to the Gamecocks in the SEC Tournament final, will earn the fourth No. 1 seed and will both head up Birmingham regionals.
That means Kim Mulkey and LSU are likely heading West for March Madness.
Due to the NCAA selection committee's seeding and bracket building criteria of avoiding having teams from the same conference meet before the regional finals round (Elite 8), with the Tigers (28-5) being the third best team in the SEC this year means the Tigers could see themselves end up in one of the Spokane regions.
LSU made its way to the semifinals of the SEC Tournament where it lost to Texas, 56-49 , without stars Flau'jae Johnson and Aneesah Morrow, who left the game early in the third quarter with a foot sprain.

ESPN's Charlie Creme has had LSU as a No. 3 seed in his projections since the back-to-back losses to Alabama and Ole Miss to close out the regular season. In his predictions, the Tigers are the 3-seed in Spokane 2 Region with UCLA as the No. 1 seed. LSU would open March Madness against No. 14 Oregon State and would host No. 6 seed Florida State as well as the winner of Washington-Princeton from a First Four game.
In Autumn Johnson's final predictions before Selection Sunday, she actually has LSU in the Birmingham 4 Regional with Texas as the No. 1 seed in that quarter of the bracket. The Tigers would face Portland as the No. 14 seed in this scenario and would host No. 6 West Virginia and No. 11 Washington.
Her Hoop Stats has projected the Tigers to land out West for the past few weeks.
