"BREAKING: The Memphis Grizzlies are trading Desmond Bane to the Orlando Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope , Cole Anthony , four unprotected first-round picks and one first-round pick swap, sources tell ESPN," Charania wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
There were talks at the end of the season that the Grizzlies may be looking to make some trades , and now they get two key players to add to their rotation.
Coming into the offseason, it was obvious that the Magic needed to make a move so they could compete in the Eastern Conference, and Bane might be the perfect complement to Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner . The Magic were one of the worst 3-point shooting teams in the league last season, and Bane will be able to help in that department.
Bane is one of three NBA players with 800 made 3-pointers and has shot 40% from the 3-point line since entering the league in 2020, and has shot 43.2% on catch and shoot 3s in the last 5 seasons. Bane can do a lot of other things on the court, but his shooting alone will help the team.

As for the Grizzlies, after being eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, and the core group of Bane, Ja Morant , and Jaren Jackson Jr. not making much progress in the past few years, it's no surprise that they made a trade. There could be more deals on the way, but Caldwell-Pope and Anthony should be serviceable players for the team moving forward. To make things even better, they now have four extra first-round picks, so the future is looking bright for them.
