Michigan football is known for many things, including having the most wins of any college football program all time and the most conference championships in the history of the Big Ten.
One of the greatest honors a Michigan player can receive is to be named team captain, a distinction given to six Wolverines players on Thursday.
The captains named were edge rusher Derrick Moore , linebacker Ernest Hausmann , guard Giovanni El-Hadi, fullback/tight end Max Bredeson , tight end Marlin Klein and safety Rod Moore . Moore is returning from an injury that cost him all of last season.
On Thursday, a change to the Wolverines' iconic uniforms was unveiled by tight ends coach and co-offensive coordinator Steve Casula.
"The biggest honor for a Michigan Football Player is to be voted captain by Their TEAM - Proud and Grateful to coach two captains of Team 146 @marlinkelin17 @maxbredeson," Casula wrote on his Instagram account.
The picture included a new jersey design with the letter C on the right chest, designating each Wolverines player as captain in a radical change. It is the first time in program history
that captains will wear the letter C on their jerseys.
Fans React to Post
Fans reacted quickly to Casula's post.
"Go get them coach," one fan said.
"The boys," offensive tackle Andrew Sprague said.
"Amen! Good stuff coach," another added.
"Have a great year coach!" another said.
The Wolverines' classic maize and blue uniforms will take the field for the first time this season on Saturday, Aug. 30 in a game against the New Mexico Lobos that will be shown on Peacock.
Michigan Captain is a Prestigious Honor
The role of captain is not something that is taken lightly by those who have been honored.
During a speech on campus in Ann Arbor after his NFL playing days, seven-time Super Bowl winner and former Wolverines starting quarterback Tom Brady called it the greatest honor he had ever received as a player.
The Wolverines' 2025 captains aren't household names outside of most of the Great Lakes states. They are talented players tasked with bringing the Wolverines back to their past glory, and capable of making a big splash in the Big Ten and beyond this season if the cards fall right.
