The Pittsburgh Steelers might have themselves a left tackle problem. Newly-named starting l eft tackle Broderick Jones was sidelined for a portion of training camp with an injury, and when he's on the field, he hasn't looked like the franchise left tackle the Steelers traded up for. In addition, key backup offensive tackle Calvin Anderson is out with an injury that head coach Mike Tomlin characterizes and worse than just day-to-day.
Left tackle is the most critical spot on the offensive line, so the Steelers need to be sure they have their best there. This led one member of the media to ask Tomlin if he has considered moving starting right tackle Troy Fautanu to the left side. Tomlin quickly dismissed this, citing Fautanu's lack of experience.
"No, he doesn't have enough experience to do that," Tomlin said. "If you watch today, we gave Spencer Anderson some work out there. He's more experienced and versatile, and so others will be called upon, probably before Troy will."
This is a less-than-ideal situation with just a month until the start of the season. Jones was promoted to left tackle at the start of the offseason despite a lack of development from 2023 to 2024. Pittsburgh didn't even try to re-sign Dan Moore Jr.
