Bolstering the bullpen has reportedly been a priority for the Yankees before tomorrow's MLB trade deadline. That remains a top focus after acquiring third baseman Ryan McMahon , and New York Post MLB insider Jon Heyman offers up a notable update on the situation Tuesday night. "Yankees have been in contact with Pirates about multiple players. David Bednar is a target. Mitch Keller interests them, too. But the price tag might discourage them."

With the Houston Astros in a serious race for the American League West title against the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers , The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Chandler Rome report they are in talks to bolster their starting rotation by acquiring 2022 AL Cy Young runner-up Dylan Cease . The Padres pitcher, who is a free agent at the end of the season, is 3-10 with a 4.79 ERA and 87 ERA+. But he leads all of baseball in strikeouts per nine innings at 11.6 and finished fourth in NL Cy Young voting in 2024.
The report admits that a trade could prove difficult, and it is unclear if they have the trade pieces to satisfy the San Diego Padres .

Despite creating one of the deepest rosters in baseball, injuries have hurt the Dodgers all season. That is why they are expected to be active before the July 31 MLB trade deadline, and have made the bullpen a priority. And it seems they are among the teams in pursuit of two-time All-Star reliever Ryan Helsley . "Ryan Helsley is one of the most popular trade targets with no less than a half-dozen teams interested to varying degrees. Among the suitors, per sources, are the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Phillies , Rangers, and Blue Jays ," MLB Networks' Mark Feinsand reports.
New York Mets Trade Pursuit of Luis Robert Jr. Likely Dead

Recent reports and rumors have linked the New York Mets to a potential trade for Chicago White Sox centerfielder Luis Robert Jr. since last year. However, despite rumors of ongoing discussions, the price still seems unrealistic. "The White Sox are apparently resolute in the stance that they'll either receive a trade return the equivalent of what Robert's potential is or hang onto him beyond the deadline," ESPN MLB insider Buster Olney reports . Despite two down seasons and injury woes, the asking price remains high for the one-time All-Star. The Mets are unlikely to move premium prospects for him, and the report claims big league infielders like Mark Vientos haven't swayed the Sox to make a deal.

Is a trade done, and he has his plane tickets? According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the answer is no. "Jhoan Duran has not been traded. He was just hugging his bullpen catcher because that's what friends do sometimes," Passan wrote on X.

Bryce Harper Willing to Switch Positions if Philadelphia Phillies Swing Big Trade

The Philadelphia Phillies have been linked to several trades ahead of tomorrow's deadline. One is for Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star slugger Eugenio Suarez . However, such a move would bring redundancies at certain positions. Well, top star Bryce Harper is willing to help solve that problem. Harper told MLB.com's Todd Zolecki he would go back to the outfield if the Phils end up acquiring Eugenio Suarez. "If it ever gets to that point, I'm willing," Harper told Zolecki.
MLB Executives Believe Current Trade Asking Prices Are Extreme

"It seems like there are extreme relief pitching prices and a lot of 'eye-of-the-beholder' bats," an NL executive told MLB Network's Mark Feinsand ahead of tomorrow's deadline. "There's plenty of back-end starting pitching, but not as much impact. [Monday] will be a big day for the bubble teams deciding what they're doing." Two executives from the NL and AL both suggested they weren't sure there was any "big fish" that was a lock to be traded before 5 PM ET on Thursday.
