After dropping its previous contest to Inter Miami , Nashville SC was looking for a bounce-back game versus the Columbus Crew.
The two teams are toward the top of the Eastern Conference, but at Geodis Park in front of 28,254 fans on July 16, it was all Nashville SC as it defeated the Columbus Crew 3-0.
It didn't take long for the home team to find the advantage.
"That's a really good Columbus team," Nashville SC coach BJ Callaghan said. "They've been really good for a long period of time, and tonight, I thought this was a really complete team performance."
Nashville SC improved to 13-5-5 for 44 points ; Columbus is 11-4-8 for 41 points.
HE KNEW WHAT HE COULD DO: Sam Surridge bet on himself, and it's starting to pay off big with Nashville SC | Estes
In the second minute, Alex Muyl took a shot from the left side of the box roughly 10 yards out. The ball deflected off of Columbus Crew's Sean Zawadzki , past goalkeeper Patrick Schulte and into the bottom right corner for an own goal, putting Nashville SC up 1-0.
Then in the 30th minute, two of NSC's new All-Stars got to work.
Sam Surridge sent the ball in from the left side to a cutting Hany Mukhtar , who came sliding in a few feet from the goal, getting a touch with his right foot and sneaking it past Schulte for the 2-0 lead in the 30th minute for his 11th goal of the season.
To top off the night, Surridge did what he does best.
In the 82nd minute, Ahmed Qasem took it all the way to the bottom right corner of the 6-yard box.
Schulte stepped toward Qasem, but Qasem found Surridge a few yards in front of the goal wide open, netting it in for his league-leading 17th goal.
Surridge and Mukhtar were named to the MLS All-Star team on July 15 . Right back Andy Najar had been announced as an All-Star on June 25.
Nashville SC debuts new kits
The win wasn't the only exciting thing that fans at Geodis Park saw.
Nashville SC released and debuted a new kit: "Nashville Nostalgia." The club released the uniforms that are inspired by the '90s.
"The uniforms look great," Callaghan said. "I guess now after the win, we're going to have to find as many ways as we can to put those on."
The kit feature a white jersey, with "Nashville" in blue retro font across the front. The shorts held a denim pattern to represent jeans.
The 1996 MLS logo was included on the jersey near the neckline. On the bottom left side of the jersey sat a brown leather Nashville SC patch, which was made to look like something that belonged on a pair of jeans.
