Nick Saban picks Ohio State QB Julian Sayin as the best quarterback in college football

Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin throws a pass against Minnesota on Oct. 4.

Highlighting many of college football's top quarterbacks, former Alabama coach Nick Saban picked Ohio State's Julian Sayin as the sport's best on ESPN's "College Gameday."

In Eugene, Oregon, ahead of the college football slate on Oct. 11, Saban explained that many quarterbacks have the opportunity to be the top quarterback in the sport, such as Oklahoma's John Mateer, Oregon's Dante Moore and Indiana's Fernando Mendoza.

Among them, Saban highlighted Sayin because of a standout stat in his first season as the Buckeyes ' starting quarterback.

"But nobody has done what Ohio State's quarterback Julian Sayin [has]... he's completed 80% of his passes, nobody else has done that," Saban said to the disapproval of the Oregon crowd.

The coach recruited Sayin to Alabama before Saban retired as the Crimson Tide's head coach. Sayin decided to transfer nine days after Saban's announcement in 2024, committing to Ohio State later that month.

Sayin has completed 80.2% of his passes for 1,313 yards and 13 touchdowns through five games with the Buckeyes.
