The NFL Scouting Combine is in full swing, and on day one, the edge rushers and defensive tackles took center stage. For the Oregon Ducks , that meant it was Derrick Harmon and Ja'Maree Caldwell 's chance to shine, and both players had solid days. By the end of the day, it was clear that Harmon is secure in his spot as one of the best defensive tackles in this year's draft class.
Harmon played one season at Oregon, after playing the first three years of his career at Michigan State. In his four collegiate seasons, Harmon racked up 116 total tackles, 18 TFLs, 8.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries and three forced fumbles. In 2024, he made 45 tackles, 11 TFLs, five sacks, two fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles, making Harmon's one year as a Duck, his best.

Ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft, Harmon is thought to be one of the best defensive linemen available. ESPN's Mel Kiper ranks him the No. 6 DT on his "Big Board," but The Athletic ranks him as the No. 2 DT, behind only Mason Graham , a former Michigan Wolverines star.

Harmon kicked off the afternoon with a bang, clocking one of the fastest 40-yard dash times among all the defensive tackles. The majority of the group exceeded five seconds, but after clocking a time of 4.97 seconds on his first attempt, Harmon ran the dash in 4.95 seconds his second time around, both of which are stunning times for a man his size. The top sprinter of the group, Nebraska's Ty Robinson, ran the dash in 4.83 seconds.

Time: 1.74 seconds
Rank: T-6th of 19 defensive tackles.
The 10-yard split is the time it takes players to reach the 10-yard mark on the track during their 40-yard dash. While the 40 measures a player's left-lane, nobody on the freeway speed, the 10-yard split allows evaluators to assess players' burst and acceleration. Again, for someone Harmon's size, 1.74 seconds is remarkable burst.

NFL Combine Score (out of 100): 79
Harmon is graded as a 6.38 out of eight, which, according to the NFL's website, means he's projected to "eventually be a plus starter." Harmon was one of the best defensive tackles in all of college football last season, and on Thursday, he showed he is incredibly fast and quick (two different things) for his size. One concern some teams might have is his smaller stature, but it certainly wasn't a problem during his time in college.
