Oregon Ducks defense wins Ducks Wire Player of the Game after dominant showing in Week 2
It didn’t seem feasible after a nearly flawless performance last week, but the Oregon Ducks somehow managed to play even better this Saturday. They opened up the offense much more, showing off a variety of trick plays and letting Dante Moore loose to throw a few deep shots.
The Oklahoma State Cowboys couldn’t stop a single thing the Ducks did, getting exposed on the ground and through the air. Normally the Player of the Game is given to a single player, but it has to go to an entire unit after today’s all-around obliteration.
Everyone on the offense was awesome, but the nod goes to the entire Ducks defense.
They were absolutely suffocating against the Cowboys , giving up just three points and hardly conceding an inch in the second half. It wasn’t until nearly the halfway mark of the fourth quarter when Oklahoma State finally picked up its first first down of the half.
More impressive was the ball-hawking abilities shown by the defense. At the end of the third quarter, linebacker Jerry Mixon read a play perfectly and jumped in front quarterback Zane Flores’ pass, taking it back 26 yards to the house. On the very next possession, Flores got confused and threw it right to Peyton Woodyard , who returned 28 yards for back-to-back defensive scores.
We knew the defense was great because of their performance last week, but they took it to another level today. Head coach Dan Lanning is sure to be proud of the performance put on his by the side of the ball he has the most expertise in.
