Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales has delivered some delightfully surprising news about one of the team's top offensive players.
Right guard Robert Hunt , who has missed the last five games due to a biceps tear , was present at Wednesday's practice. Still shelved on injured reserve, the sixth-year veteran did not officially participate in the session, but did engage in some movement and range-of-motion exercises.
Canales was asked about Hunt's outlook after today's workout.
"Yeah, he's coming along. They say he's ahead of schedule," Canales replied. "I think we get told that a lot, but I think our guys really push it. And I've noticed over the years that guys that believe that they heal fast, end up healing fast. And that just puts you in a positive mindset to be able to get after your rehab, push the envelope and say, 'Hey, we have this prescribed for you today. Can I do a little bit more? Is this good enough? Can we stop here?'"
Hunt signed with the Panthers on a five-year, $100 million in the spring of 2024. He would be named to his first Pro Bowl in that first season for Carolina, where he played in 93.5 percent of the offense's snaps.
Canales added that the timeline for Hunt's return is "somewhere around the bye week." The Panthers' bye comes in Week 14, following matchups against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 12 and the Los Angeles Rams in Week 13.
