PASADENA, CA — Penn State's trip to California isn't starting off as planned.
Facing winless UCLA at the Rose Bowl, the Nittany Lions were stunned by the Bruins' quick start to the game. UCLA scored a touchdown on the opening drive and a sneaky onside kick led to a field goal for a 10-0 lead. It was the first time UCLA led during a game this season.
UCLA's offense continued to click in the first half, jumping out to a shocking 24-7 lead late in the second quarter.
Given their large fanbase, plenty of Penn State fans made the trip West and took a large portion of the stadium. They were clearly unhappy as "Fire Franklin" chants broke out after UCLA jumped to a 17-point lead.
The chants continues after Penn State was unable to convert a fourth down in the final minute of the first half following Franklin's decision to hold onto his timeouts around midfield. UCLA added a 54-yard field goal to take a 27-7 lead at halftime.
