Although it's rare for players to stick with one franchise for the entirety of their careers, it is pretty straightforward to keep up with those that once wore a Minnesota Vikings uniform. Playing in the NFL becomes a fraternity, and players look out for one another.
While he didn't play a prominent starting role for Minnesota, Kris Boyd was a seventh round pick in 2019 and has parlayed that into a nice career. Now he's fighting for much more than just a roster spot.
Kris Boyd in critical condition after shooting
Boyd has not appeared in a game this season after spending the past two with the Houston Texans. Signed by the New York Jets in March, Boyd was placed on injured reserve in August after suffering a shoulder injury in practice. Early Sunday morning he was shot in New York and now is in critical condition.

New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was shot and critically wounded in Midtown early Sunday morning and is now clinging to life at Bellevue Hospital, police and sources said. The shooting took place on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue shortly after 2 a.m., according to police, who did not identify Boyd as the victim.
Boyd was shot in the abdomen outside Sei Less restaurant after a dispute turned violent, with the gunmen firing two shots, law enforcement sources told The Post. Boyd lapsed in and out of consciousness before he was rushed to the hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
The Jets lost to the New England Patriots on Thursday Night . Boyd remains a key special teams player, but hasn't been on the field this year. Being out late often presents opportunity for bad things to happen, and Boyd could not have experienced something worse over the weekend.
Stable condition is a positive development for Boyd, but having to overcome a gun shot to the stomach is hardly going to get him back on the field more quickly. Last season he played 17 games for the Texans and logged 77% of the possible special teams snaps.
The Minnesota Vikings kick off against the Chicago Bears on Sunday , and the 2-8 Jets head to Baltimore next weekend.
