RJ Johnson III will remain Florida A&M football's starting quarterback versus Alabama State this Saturday, Sept. 27, per the Rattlers' gameday depth chart provided to the media.
Johnson will get his fourth start as the Rattlers' (1-2) quarterback, after FAMU head coach James Colzie III didn't announce who would be his signal caller in the Week 5 Southwestern Athletic Conference opener versus the Alabama State Hornets (2-1).
This season, Johnson has completed 52 of 82 passes for 677 yards and has thrown four touchdown passes. He has thrown no interceptions in FAMU's first four games.
In FAMU's most recent game versus Albany State, Johnson completed 17 of 22 passes for 272 yards, passed for two touchdowns, and was sacked three times in the Rattlers' 33-25 victory on Saturday, Sept. 13.
FAMU backup quarterback Jett Peddy may see some playing time, too. He's completed 10 of 21 passes for 104 yards and thrown an interception.
However, Peddy also proved capable of quarterbacking the Rattlers.
Against Albany State, the Peddy went nine for 14 for 99 yards and led the Rattlers to their first touchdown drive in the comeback win versus the Golden Rams. Peddy also threw an interception that game, after the football was tipped off a wide receiver's hand.
FAMU football will kick off its SWAC opener game versus Alabama State at 3 p.m. on Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
