In the midst of their big win over the Seattle Seahawks , the Los Angeles Rams suffered a major loss. Quentin Lake injured his elbow during the win and was unable to return, a bad sign for the Rams' leader in the secondary and do-it-all safety.
Sean McVay didn't have an update after the game but on Monday, he told reporters Lake will miss "a little bit of time." He's set to get an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, but it sounds like surgery is a possibility.
McVay mentioned Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the team doctor, when discussing Lake's injury, which is at least a little bit concerning. McVay didn't say whether it's a season-ending injury, however, according to Adam Grosbard.
McVay called Lake "a big loss," per Nate Atkins of The Athletic, and a difficult player to replace. He's been the Rams' primary slot defender, but also someone who can play deep and also line up in the box to stop the run.
If this is a long-term injury, it's particularly unfortunate for Lake, who's in the final year of his contract and in line for a big payday in 2026.
The Rams do have great depth at safety with Kamren Curl, Kamren Kinchens, Jaylen McCollough and even Josh Wallace, but Lake is more of a slot corner and the Rams aren't exactly rich with talent there. Emmanuel Forbes Jr. and Darious Williams are both outside corners, and Cobie Durant is also better playing the boundary than he is in the slot, but one of them will need to move inside if Lake misses time.
McVay will have further updates on Lake's status Wednesday, if it's not reported by an outside source before then.
