The 6-foot-4 7/8, 254-pound Matlack tested well in the pre-draft process. He ran an above-average 4.75-second 40-yard dash and put up elite marks with a 4.3-second short shuttle, 7.1-second three-cone drill, 36.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-2 broad jump. He had an overall 9.62 out of 10 Relative Athletic Score.
The Steelers will invite a number of players to tryouts for their three-day rookie minicamp, which will be held the second weekend of May to UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

Over the last few seasons, the Steelers have typically signed one or two players to contracts from rookie camp invitees. Among the team's rookie camp tryout successes have been quarterback Devlin Hodges in 2019. Last year, vets Anthony Averett and Jonathan Ward made the team after trying out at rookie camp.
Matlack will be facing steep odds to make the team at outside linebacker, where the Steelers have amassed quality depth, adding fourth-round pick Jack Sawyer to a room that already includes T.J. Watt , Alex Highsmith , Nate Herbig and Jeremiah Moon .
Matlack is the first of the team's rookie camp tryouts to be announced for the 2025 season.
