Through two preseason games, the Pittsburgh Steelers rushing offense has sputtered, due in part to the absence of starter Jaylen Warren . Even with the addition of veteran Kenneth Gainwell and rookie Kaleb Johnson , this doesn't feel like a group that can sustain the type of running game the Steelers will need to be competitive in the AFC.
This is after the Steelers let Najee Harris walk in free agency and sign with the Los Angeles Chargers . The offseason additions have been solid but for former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger , it hasn't been enough and he's concerned. Roethlisberger talked about the Steelers' run game after Harris on his podcast, and you could tell Roethlisberger isn't excited about the Steelers' run game this season.
"How Can It Not Be A Concern?" Roethlisberger questioned.
Part of the struggles with the Steelers' run game has been due to seeing largely reserves on the offensive line. But there's no denying that what we've seen from Johnson so far this preseason hasn't inspired confidence that he can be an upgrade over Harris. This just puts more pressure on veteran Jaylen Warren, who has never been asked to be the lead back.
