The Pittsburgh Steelers saw a multitude of position battles unfold during the preseason. One of those battles circled around the inside linebacker position. On Monday, the Steelers announced the release of multiple players. One included 2022 seventh-round pick Mark Robinson.
Robinson established himself as a run stopper and became a valuable contributor on special teams. However, in a room with Patrick Queen , Payton Wilson , and now healthy Cole Holcomb , there were maybe one or two spots available in the room.
It appears at the moment, 2025 seventh-round pick Carson Bruener could have received the nod ahead of Robinson. Bruener was not only routinely around the ball on defense, but he is also an expected special teams contributor.
The timing of Robinson's release gives him an opportunity to get ahead of the cut deadline. He will be able to sign with any team that expresses interest. If he doesn't land elsewhere, he could also be a practice squad candidate for the Steelers.

The former Ole Miss product was selected in the 2022 NFL Draft. He converted from running back to linebacker during his collegiate career. After making a number of plays in the 2022 preseason, he carved out a role.
Robinson appeared in 38 career games , recording four starts, 45 tackles, and three forced fumbles. The NFL's roster reduction deadline is set for Tuesday afternoon.
