- Steelers undecided on starting safety vs Seahawks between Chuck Clark and Jabrill Peppers
Last week, when starting strong safety DeSHone Elliott went down with a knee injury, veteran Chuck Clark stepped in and played well. But Clark's good game doesn't assure him a starting spot this week against the Seattle Seahawks . Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin addressed the media on Thursday and said the team was undecided about who would start in place of Elliott on Sunday .
Just a day after the game, the Steelers signed veteran safety Jabrill Peppers and he's gotten a full week of work in. This is another, it would appear, to make the starting strong safety spot a position battle between Clark and Peppers. Elliott is expected to miss at least two games with a sprained MCL.
The Steelers safety position has seen a full makeover this offseason. First, the team traded away Minkah Fitzpatrick in favor of Juan Thornhill , and now Elliott is being replaced. This is in addition to the additions of Jalen Ramsey and Darius Slay at cornerback, leaving only Joey Porter Jr. as a returning starter from last season in the secondary, assuming Porter is healthy enough to play.
