The NFL world has been abuzz following the spit-filled altercation between Cincinnati Bengals WR Ja'Marr Chase and Pittsburgh Steelers CB Jalen Ramsey — with everyone, including the outspoken Stephen A. Smith, voicing their disgust over the situation.
On Monday's episode of ESPN's First Take, Smith argued Chase should be suspended two games — for spitting in Ramsey's face and for lying about it to the media right after.
"It should be an automatic two-game suspension," Smith said. "Automatic. One is for the spitting. Another is for telling a bold face lie. Because he was lying. I saw the interview where Ja'Marr Chase was talking to reporters, before I saw a replay of the actual incident itself. To sit up there with a straight face, 'I ain't open my mouth, I ain't do nothing.' Evidently, he doesn't understand we're living in the modern age, where cameras are everywhere. You're damn right he spit on Jalen Ramsey ."
Smith added that the NFL needs to set an example on Chase's actions and his "bold faced lie," reiterating that the incident warrants a two-game suspension.
It remains to be seen what the league will rule in regards to a potential punishment for Chase, but ESPN's Adam Schefter revealed that a decision is expected as early as today.
