Spectators and participants in the Boston Marathon on Monday should see pleasant weather conditions for most of the day, but there are still a few safety precautions they should be aware of.
The forecast across all the towns and cities along the route is that there will be mostly sunny skies all along the way, according to the National Weather Service. While rain is in the forecast, it's likely to start after 11 p.m. for each town and city.
"It's supposed to be a pretty nice day here," Emily McMinn, National Weather Service meteorologist, said.
McMinn and Lorna Campbell, head of public relations for the Boston Athletic Association (BAA), both recommend that spectators and runners in the marathon stay hydrated and use sunscreen.
"These are safety precautions that are standard for any marathon; there's nothing different this year with no adverse conditions," Campbell said.
Runners typically prep ahead of time, looking at the forecast while they train, Campbell continued. They also prepare themselves on what clothes to wear at the starting line. As they run, people sweat and are advised to keep themselves hydrated.
Along the route, the BAA has fluid replacement stations with water and Gatorade available beginning at Mile 2, according to the BAA's website . There will also be three Maurten Hydrogel (sports gel) stations along the course, at Mile 11.8 on the Wellesley town line, at Mile 17 in Newton and at Mile 21.5 near Boston College.
Participants unable to continue the race can stop for assistance at any of the 26 medical stations along the course, the BAA's website stated. Sweep buses will be available at all of these medical stations to drop people off at the finish area medical tent.
"Our message is we want everyone to be safe, have a great day and look after yourself, look out for others and … your surroundings," Campbell said. "Being safe and aware is everything."
Temperatures are expected to be mostly in the low 60s or high 50s, forecasters said. At the starting line in Hopkinton, it should reach 60 degrees with winds at around 14 mph and gusts reaching 29 mph. Ashland and Framingham could be slightly warmer at 62, with winds at around 6 mph in the afternoon in Ashland and in the morning in Framingham.
Further along the route, Natick, Wellesley and Newton's conditions should resemble those in Ashalnd and Framingham, according to the weather service.
Slightly different from most of the route, forecasters said that Brookline and Boston should expect to see similar conditions. Temperatures could be around 59 degrees. Winds in Brookline should reach 7 mph in the afternoon, while Boston could see winds between 5 and 7 mph also in the afternoon.
