Rapid Reaction: Texas A&M stuns Notre Dame after epic 41-40 road win

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his veteran 2025 roster enter Week 3 with plenty of momentum after defeating UTSA and Utah State, scoring 86 points behind starting quarterback Marcel Reed and transfer wide receivers KC Concepcion and Mario Craver , who have reeled in six of Reed's seven touchdown passes so far. However, the Aggies will now face No. 8 Notre Dame on Saturday night, which stands as their most significant test to date.

After falling to the Fighting Irish at home during the 2024 season-opener, revenge isn't what coach Mike Elko is focused on, knowing that his defense will be facing a new offense under Notre Dame OC Mike Denbrock, while first-year starting quarterback CJ Carr isn't as mobile as former starter Riley Leonard , but still possesses enough arm talent to win through the air.

Still, this game will likely come down to Texas A&M's offense finding balance, which might be tough against Notre Dame's defensive line, even though the Aggies ran for 235 yards, including 68 yards and a score from senior running back Le'Veon Moss.

Texas A&M secured the epic road victory over Notre Dame after Marcel Reed connected with tight end Nate Boerkircher for the game-winning score. This is the first ranked road game since 2014, as the Aggies enter the Week 4 bye week 3-0.

Final: Texas A&M 41, Notre Dame 40

What a comeback! Texas A&M's offense compiled 488 yards on offense, and while the defense struggled for most of the game, so did Notre Dame's. In what was a back-and-forth contest, starting quarterback Marcel Reed never gave up, even after sustaining several big hits, leading to one of the biggest drives in the program's history after Notre Dame missed the extra point during the Irish's final drive of the game to retake the lead 40-34.

For many of us who have covered the program over the last three or four years, Texas A&M's lack of poise in final drives, especially on the road, has led to a host of disappointing losses, including last season's 4 OT loss to Auburn in Alabama . Well, those demons had to be dealt with on Saturday after Marcel Reed found transfer tight end Nate Boerkircher the game-tying touchdown, taking the lead with just 11 seconds left.

Stopping the Irish for the final possession, Texas A&M earned its first ranked road win since 2014, and its first nonconference road win since 1979. Heading into the Week 4 bye week, Texas A&M should be considered one of the most dangerous teams in the SEC.
