Texas A&M running back details his journey back from injury during spring press conference
Injuries are an unavoidable aspect of sports, particularly in football, one of the most physical games on the planet. Unfortunately, Texas A&M Aggies running back Rueben Owens faced a major setback at the beginning of the 2024 season when a foot injury sidelined him for most of the year.
Heading into spring 2024, Owens was slated as the starting running back after an impressive freshman campaign where he earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors . His standout performance included amassing 743 total yards, which led all freshmen in the SEC and highlighted his bright future. However, disaster struck during the first scrimmage of fall camp, as the former five-star prospect sustained an injury that kept him out until Week 14. Despite limited action upon his return, his determination and resilience were evident.
As the Aggies prepare for the 2025 football season, Rueben Owens is back in action and determined to showcase his talent. Having recovered from his injury, he has spoken openly about the challenges of his recovery and his journey back to full strength.
Owens on how he dealt with missing nearly every game during the 2024 season
"It really hurt because I felt like I was having a good fall camp and was going to have a big sophomore year."
"I just had to get through it and get to work immediately so I could get back as fast as I could."
Rueben Owens on learning from running back Le'Veon Moss
"Seeing Le'Veon (Moss) and basically learning. You learn a lot from the sideline. I know a lot more now that I didn't know then."
Owens on his message to Le'Veon Moss after his injury mid-season
"It's football. Injuries happen. He got right after it, too. ... You just have to have a strong mind to get through it, and you'll be good."
Owens explained how he felt at the end of the season and where he is now
"Towards the bowl game, I felt alright, but I wasn't 100 percent."
"Now, I feel a lot better. It still has a little pain to it, but nothing I can't get through during the spring."
Owens has gained strength this offseason, which will help his running style
"I got way stronger. It'll help me break tackles more, run harder."
