No. 14 national seed Tennessee (45-16) advanced to the NCAA Tournament Knoxville Regional championship game after defeating No. 3 regional seed Cincinnati (33-25), 10-6, on Saturday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium .
The Vols will face the winner between No. 2 regional seed Wake Forest and Cincinnati on Sunday (6 p.m. EDT). First pitch between the Demon Deacons and Bearcats is slated for noon EDT on Sunday. The loser will be eliminated from the NCAA Tournament.
Following the Vols' win over Cincinnati on Saturday, eighth-year Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello discussed advancing to a regional title game.
"It's nice to have donors, alumni, fans and administration that are very supportive of our team," Vitello said. "I recycled a message nonstop about this weekend: embrace the chaos, because it is that time of year. I don't know that this game was more chaotic than the one before us, but both were kind of what you'd expect, all hands on deck, as it relates to pitchers, and a lot of good swings out of all four teams.
"Fortunate at the end of the day to be one of the teams that was able to win."
