- Top MLB Reporter Pours Cold Water On Potential Carlos Correa-Astros Reunion at Trade Deadline
Sorry, Houston Astros fans — a Carlos Correa reunion doesn't appear likely at the trade deadline.
The Athletic's Chandler Rome and Dan Hayes reported Wednesday that the Astros and Minnesota Twins have discussed a trade for the three-time All-Star shortstop. Correa spent the first seven seasons of his career in Houston and was part of the scandal-plagued 2017 World Series championship team.

Correa signed with the Twins ahead of the 2022 season, but hasn't replicated his Houston success due to injuries.
Even though the two teams have had trade talks surrounding Correa, The Athletic's senior baseball writer Ken Rosenthal said on the "Foul Territory" podcast he doesn't see the 30-year-old returning to Houston.
"It sure doesn't sound to me like they're locked in on a Correa trade," Rosenthal said about the Twins. "It would require his approval. He's got a lot of money. I'm sure the Twins would have to pay some."
The Twins are at the center of the trade deadline as starter Joe Ryan , relievers Jhoan Duran, Griffin Jax and Danny Coulombe and super-utility player Willi Castro are wanted by playoff contenders.

Correa also has a no-trade clause and is owed an average annual salary of $33.3 million through 2028. Rosenthal points out that the Astros owner is driving the Correa talks.
"Jim Crane, the Astros owner, likes stars, and that's what's driving a lot of this," said Rosenthal.
The Astros have also been linked to San Diego Padres ace Dylan Cease in recent days, which would fortify a rotation that includes Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez .
"If I had to guess, and again we're guessing here, we're picking out things out of the air, I would say Dylan Cease more likely than Correa," added Rosenthal.

If the Astros somehow do trade for Correa, he would play third base as Isaac Paredes is on the injured list with a hamstring injury that could cost him the season. All-Star shortstop Jeremy Pena is also hurt with a fractured left rib but he's rehabbing in the minors and could return this week.
