The Jacksonville Jaguars signed Travis Hunter to his rookie contract, the club announced Sunday.
Hunter, the No. 2 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, signed a four-year, $46.65 million fully guaranteed contract with a $30.57 million signing bonus paid upfront, per ESPN's Adam Schefter .
According to Schefter, Hunter is the first non-quarterback to receive their entire signing bonus upfront.
The Jaguars made a draft day trade with Cleveland to acquire Hunter, sending the Browns the No. 5 overall, No. 36 overall and No. 126 overall picks in the 2025 draft, along with their 2026 first round pick, in exchange for pick No. 2, No. 104 and No. 200 in 2025.
The team is planning to allow Hunter to play on both sides of the football as he did in high school, where he became the top recruit in his class, and in college, where he became the Heisman Trophy winner in 2024.
How many snaps will Travis Hunter play? Jacksonville Jaguars keeping all options on table
The Jaguars are already enacting that plan, allowing Hunter time in the classroom and on the practice field with both units.
It's part of a bold way of thinking amongst Jacksonville's new leadership contingent of head coach Liam Coen, general manager James Gladstone and executive vice president Tony Boselli.
"Travis Hunter, he embodies belief. He's a rare person. He's a rare player. But he's also a reminder that the boundaries of the game of football were built to be challenged," Gladstone said during Hunter's introductory press conference. "The decision to select him was actually a statement, a statement for how we plan to move, who we are, and we want him to be nothing more than him because, when he is, he elevates the space around him."
Hunter has only had a little bit of time to build a bond with quarterback Trevor Lawrence , but he's flashed his skill in the time they've spent together.
Lawrence said he was impressed with Hunter's energy at the conclusion of the first organized team activity practice. He noted how "explosive" Hunter was getting in and out of his cuts and said he'll only keep getting better.
Similar sentiments were shared by Coen, who spoke about Hunter's energy earlier in the offseason.
"You felt that infectious smile that he has, that he provides, that he brings into the building," he said after rookie minicamp. "Very serious about football. Very serious about his process in order to put himself in a position to ultimately just be in a physical shape to do this and to run forever and to have the stamina and strength to be able to do this at a high level, but you see him out there dancing and having fun. That's really cool to see."
With Hunter officially signing, the Jaguars have their core offensive players under contracts for years to come. Lawrence received a five-year contract extension last offseason and standout second-year receiver, Brian Thomas Jr. , still has three more years on his rookie deal.
The Jaguars will be able to build the future around those three players as they try to turn around their program.
