After a long seven months of waiting, college football is finally back. Kansas State and Iowa State will face off in Ireland's Aer Lingus Classic on Saturday, kicking off a 5-game "Week 0" slate.
Then, ending week one at 8 p.m. on Labor Day, your North Carolina Tar Heels will host the TCU Horned Frogs. All eyes will be fixated on Chapel Hill, as UNC-TCU will be nationally broadcast on ESPN – under the Kenan Stadium lights.
In a Week 1 slate full of exciting games, the Tar Heels - Horned Frogs ' September 1 nightcap ranks amongst USA TODAY Sports' Top 10 matchups.
"Belichick will get started in Chapel Hill with a matchup against a true Big 12 contender in TCU," Paul Myerberg wrote. "Facing off against the Horned Frogs' highly productive offense will help paint a picture of where the Tar Heels stand in Belichick's debut – and whether this team is capable of building on the gains made – under former coach Mack Brown and competing in the ACC."
Despite making a bowl game for the sixth consecutive season, North Carolina is coming off a disappointing 6-7 finish in 2024 that led to Mack Brown's firing . TCU is in a much better spot, capping a 9-4 campaign by walloping Louisiana in the New Mexico Bowl.
UNC will carry a young, talented roster with plenty of new offseason additions into 2025. The Horned Frogs are a significantly more experienced squad, highlighted by all but four projected starters listed as upperclassmen.
How will the Bill Belichick era start in Chapel Hill? Will the Tar Heels prove they can battle the big boys, or will the Horned Frogs showcase they're an early postseason contender?
